Oh hey! I'm the girl behind the camera. I'm a photographer for every day women. Yay, you read that correct everyday women. We work with women day in and day out, who are just like you and me. And every time, we get the amazing privilege of helping women feel beautiful and confident.
I often get asked how I started in boudoir, and the truth is I did my own boudoir portraits and I fell in love with myself. At the time, over five years ago I was an overworked mom of 3, slaving away in my 9-5 job, feeling like I had lost who I was somewhere in the grind of trying to raise a family. Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love my husband and kids. But I was so busy working, hustling, being a mom, a wife, keeping the house, oh and the dog, that I had forgot who I was. She got lost in the daily grind.
When I saw myself in my boudoir images, I was amazed at how I looked, but more, I was amazed at how it made me feel. It lite a fire in me that I hadn't realized had gone out. I saw myself as this beautiful, sexy, confident woman. And I wanted to be able to give that same experience to every woman. So I opened the doors to Colleen Michelle Boudoir Studios in Northern California in February of 2020. We have now moved across the country to beautiful Franklin, Tennessee just outside of Nashville.
When I did my own session, when I fell in love with this experience, I was post twins, not back to my pre-pregnancy weight, not working out, not my most toned self, not ready to be wearing a two-piece bathing suit in public, but still craving to embrace me. I absolutely love that I have these images of me, that truly show how beautiful I am. I still look at them and think "Dang, I look good!"
I hear excuses from women all the time about why they can't or won't do their own boudoir session. Reasons usually include something like - I just need to lose 5 more pounds, 10 more pounds (or whatever the number), I couldn't indulge that much in myself, I am too shy, I am ......, the list goes on. But truthfully, it sounds a whole lot like you've been saying to yourself that you're not worth it. The way you are right now, is not worth documenting, valuing, investing in. And I am here to call you out on that thinking - thinking you're not good enough, not worth it, not perfect enough - whatever that means.
My hope is that you will you will be brave enough to say I am worth it, I am worth this experience, I am enough the way I am right now.
I am hopeful. I can almost always see the positive and hope for the best. Also that I'm brave. It's something that I am proud to say about myself. It's not a characteristic I would have always used to describe myself. But it's been forged by walking through fire and coming out stronger.
Let's be real, the place I shop most often is Amazon and Nordstrom. I love classic looks like sweaters and jackets - love a blazer or a leather jacket. My favorite thing to wear is a pair of cute jeans and a white shirt. But on shoot days you'll probably find me in leggings and a sweatshirt.
Without a doubt, Chai tea. I'm totally addicted
Either out on a date with my hubby, somewhere in Franklin - or Arrington Vineyards, or snuggled up on the couch relaxing.
I'm obsessed with Bridgerton. I also love shows with strong female characters, like The Diplomat, Anatomy of a Scandal, or all the real estate shows like Selling Sunset. Such a guilty pleasure!!
We are huge DIYers. We've renovated most of our last house in California over the 17 years that we lived there. We renovated the downstairs, my old studio, kitchen, upstairs, and our primary bedroom. We are looking for our next home and I'm sure I will start making it ours as soon as we can.
My favorite thing is to get outside, go hiking, be in nature and enjoy the fresh air with our family. Lake Tahoe will always be one of my favorite places to go.
Travel. My hubby and I have a long list of places to go and things to see. I can't wait to travel more. Last year we had epic adventures and traveled to Italy, Paris, Kauai, Ireland, Aruba, and Boston.
Reading. I love a good novel and I love learning so whether it's a motivational book, book on business, or self-help book, I'll definitely try to get something out of it. I also love quotes - which you can see them all over my website. I think they are so empowering and really speak to my soul
